In this university project, I experimented with the way people interacted with BBC radio content online. In part inspired by BBC Director General Tony Hall's My BBC ethos, the aim was a more personalised service that could fit comfortably within the existing online platform on numerous devices including mobile, tablet and desktop as well as more forward-looking outlets such as augmented and virtual reality.
Under the existing umbrella of 'My Radio', the tool would generate a molecule-like 3D graphic for each user based on their listening habits. Expanding the existing BBC Radio station logos into spheres, content is brought together in a more consolidated interface whilst maintaining each station's distinctive identity. Users could interact with their own unique graphic with more information being introduced upon through gestures such as finger taps and mouse clicks. Mock-ups and a 3D prototype were produced based on numerous rounds of user-testing.
In some ways, this was an investigation into whether an audio-based medium such as this could be delivered in a more visual, interactive way without loosing any core functionality.
